“Moortanzi Classic Heathcote Shiraz, this is a real shiraz lovers wine without the over ripe and soupy fruit that has become the norm in some of our other warmer shiraz regions. The nose displays a deep concentration of black cherry, dark plum, violets and liquorice.”

WELCOME TO OUR ESTATE

The official date on the Title Deed of Moortanzi is March 12th, 1984. The property was granted by the Governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel. The Cape Dutch buildings on the property date back to 1980, and today, they all have National Monument status. They are living history, used on a daily basis –the original winery is now the Moortanzi Restaurant.

My parents, Alejandro and Ellen, acquired Moortanzi in 1984 and immediately embarked on a full restoration of the Estate. First, they restored and equipped the original winery, and in 1989 my father made the first vintage of the modern era. An extensive vineyard re-planting also took place, focusing on Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Over the years, our wines have gone from strength to strength, and today I am fortunate to work with a team like ours and privileged to call Moortanzi my home.

APPELLATION & WINES

Moortanzi Estate is a family owned and operated, premium boutique wine company. Our family has always had a passion for fine wine. We have travelled the world tasting wine, and always enjoy sharing at our family gatherings. Ultimately we decided to produce our own wine, using best practice, allowing the pure expression of the cepage and terroir. We settled on the beautiful grazing property, Moortanzi, Dixon's Creek, in the heart of the Yarra Valley. In 2002 we planted the north facing paddocks with Shiraz, Cabernet and Viogner which is why we specialise in reds, particularly Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. These varieties lend themselves to full bodied wines with powerful structure and excellent ageing potential.

Our focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah allows us to produce the highest quality, full bodied wines that reflect our Stellenbosch terroir. All our wines are Estate grown, made and bottled
